Group Impact Volunteering

We offer a range of corporate and group volunteering opportunities to connect teams with meaningful ways to support the Mission of Open Hands and make a tangible difference to our guests. By contributing your and your teams time, skills, or resources to well-defined projects volunteer groups can help us meet our genuine organisational needs.  

This engagement also gives you and your teams the opportunity to learn about our work, understand the challenges faced by the people we support, and see the difference the contribution of volunteers make. Through thoughtful and purposeful collaboration, Group Impact Volunteering can provide long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships that enhance Open Hands’ ability to serve people in need.

Opportunity	Date and Hours	Description
Sorting Harvest donations. Following a morning in our Guest Hub	8th and 15th October 2026. 0930 - 1600	This is an opportunity to see the work of Open Hands and to spend time with our beneficiaries during the morning. Interacting with and serving our 'guests' with the essentials that we can provide, alongside our regular volunteers. The afternoon will be focussed on incoming donations of food collected over the Harvest period. This involves sorting food by category, date checking and putting into our stock room.
Cleaning Compassion Centre	Specific dates to follow 13:00 - 16:00 (potentially over two days)	At Open Hands we aim to create a welcoming environment for our guests. Part of this is to keep the centre clean and we require a team of volunteers to help with some of our annual deep clean tasks.
Food Drives in Local Supermarkets Following a morning in our Guest Hub	9th June and 19th November 0930 - 1600	This is a great opportunity to come and find out about how Open Hands supports the local community of Leicester and to be of practical help all on the same day. You will spend the morning in our compassion centre helping to serve our 'guests' (beneficiaries) alongside our regular volunteers. During the afternoon you will drive to Asda Oadby and lead a Food Drive for us. This involves giving out our leaflets and chatting with the public about how they can donate to Open Hands whilst they shop and also bringing back the donations to Open Hands.
Preparing Christmas Hampers	10th December 0930 - 1600	To join our regular volunteers in the task of serving our 'guests' during the morning. To set up a room with tables, food, bags etc for packing 200 'Sweets and Treats' hampers. This activity will contribute to the smooth packing of our Christmas hampers and make the whole process of distributing 200 hampers achievable in the required time frame.
Packing and Delivering Christmas Hampers	11th December 0930 - 1600	The group will pack 200 'Sweets and Treats' hampers and distribute them to given addresses. This involves packing the hampers in a prepared space according to provided lists. Using own vehicles to deliver the hampers to contacts at pre-arranged destinations.
Social Media/Website specialist review	Flexible availability during the year.	We are looking specialist support to review our digital and online presence and receive feedback on how we could improve our communications. We are also looking for technical support and advice on how we can improve our communications.
Event Support	To Be confirmed as we confirm attendance at events	We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in supporting a range of events throughout the year. These would include (but not exclusive to) Run Leicester in September Food Festival in August We would be looking for people to support on the day, welcoming runner or visitors.
Off Site Support (e.g. your own fundraising event	As and when based on activity	We are looking for volunteers, supporters and companies to support us with fundraising and profile raising events that happen away from our Compassion Centre. You may wish to do a donation drive, allow us to exhibit at your conference, speak to your suppliers about how they can help, or have other opportunities. Any ideas are welcome as long as they also fit in with our values and mission.

What you can do before you arrive

• Share your purpose with your team
  Explain why you have chosen Open Hands, what your aims for the day are, and how the activity aligns with your organisation’s mission, values, or strategy.

• Provide background information
  Send your team information about who we are, what we do, and why you have chosen to support us.

• Share practical details
  Let your team know how to find us, where to park, what to wear, and what to bring for food and drink, along with any other details that will help them feel prepared.

• Encourage independent research
  You may wish to share our website and social media channels so team members can learn more about us and watch videos showing the layout of the centre:
  @openhandsleics on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok.

• Set expectations for the day
  Clearly communicate what your team will be doing during their time with us, so everyone arrives informed and confident.
