The Home Essentials Hub is a joint pilot project between Open Hands, Action Homeless, One Roof and the Leicester Homelessness Charter, which supports people in Leicester who are moving into their own home after a period of homelessness. It provides people with everything they need to set up a home including white goods, furniture and flooring.

Individuals and families generally move from temporary accommodation into properties that are unfurnished, uncarpeted, and in need of redecoration. It can feel very overwhelming for people to manage this process and can take them a long time to make their house feel like a home. The Home Essentials Hub streamlines this process, allowing the majority of this practical work to take place before they move into the property.

What support does the Home Essentials Hub provide?

The Home Essentials Hub works with individuals and families to help prepare their home. The support offered is tailored to their specific needs and can include support to re-carpet, clean, decorate and furnish their property. Below is a list of items that we provide through the project:

Supporting the Home Essentials Hub

We would love your support as we help individuals and families to move into their new properties. Below are some of the ways that you can get involved:

1) Donate items

The work of the project is reliant on donations of the items above.

• If you have furniture items to donate then please click here to complete our furniture donation form. We will then be in touch to arrange a free collection.
• If you have smaller items to donate then we ask you to bring them to the Open Hands Compassion Centre (19 Lower Willow Street, LE1 2HP) on a Tuesday afternoon (1-5pm) or on a Thursday afternoon (3-5pm).

2) Volunteer your time

If you would be interested in volunteering your time to support the work of the Home Essentials Hub, then please click here for more details.

3) Give Money

You can give money towards the work of the Home Essentials Hub by clicking here. Simply click ‘One off donation’ and select ‘Home Essentials Hub’ and we will make sure that your donation goes towards the project.

4) Purchase Items

If you don’t have physical donations to give, then you can purchase items that we need from our online shop here. These items will be ordered by our partners at Give Today and delivered directly to our door to support those needing support.

5) Corporate Donations and support
