Here at Open Hands we love that we have the opportunity to partner with many supporters to make a difference in the lives of people in need! Your support enables us to meet the essential practical needs of many households, empower people with skills for progress towards independent living, and provide moments of care through every interaction. Together every year we impact the lives of 1000’s of people around Leicester – thank you for all that you do!
To stay in touch with the life of Open Hands (and to hear how your support makes a difference!) we would love for you to sign up to receive our newsletter. Our newsletter is sent every two months alongside an update email, full of stories, celebration and way to get involved.

Fundraise
Over the last 10 years there have been many different creative ways that people have fundraised for us – from sponsored staff days, afternoon teas, cycle rides, and mountain climbing, the possibilities are endless! Your fundraising will not only support Open Hands financially, but as you share with your family and friends you will also raise our profile, inviting other people to engage with our work.
Run Leicester 2026
If you would like to enter a team into Run Leicester in 2026, please let us know by emailing Admin@openhandsleicester.org.uk. We would love to support you in the planning process. We can link you with our JustGiving page, provide you with branded T-Shirts, and support the registration process. We also have a great support team on the day to cheer you on and thank your team for their support.

Selling on Line
Did you know that you can sell your items on Ebay and request that some or all of the money you raise us donated to Open Hands. A great way to get rid of your unneeded stuff and raising money at the same time. Especially if you have items that we do not need donating. You select Open Hands as the recipient Charity at the time of listing.
You can also sell items on Vinted, or other online selling platforms and then donate the money to us via the website. If you have items of clothing that we do not need, such as high heels, or party dresses, these can still go to help us buying the essential items that we do need. Once you have sold your items you can then donate.
Volunteer
We are so blessed by the amazing team of volunteers who support our work at Open Hands, and we’re always looking for more people to get involved. There are lots of different areas that you can support, whether you have a couple of hours a week, a day or a year to give, you would be very welcome to consider joining our team.
Opportunities that may suit people unable to volunteer during week day mornings and afternoons include:
- Our Pie Night team (Tuesday Evenings): currently operating on a 3-weekly rotation, 6.30-8.30pm. To find out more about all volunteer opportunities and how to get involved click here.
- We offer several group volunteering opportunities throughout the year, along with specific areas that we believe corporate groups would be able to support us with. Visit here to view the opportunities.
Donate
Each week we give away hundreds of food, toiletry, clothing, bedding, furniture and household items to individuals and families referred for help – the majority of these items donated to Open Hands from people around Leicester! To find out more about our current most needed items click the links below:
Alongside advertising our regular donation needs across the year, we also run Emergency and Acts of Kindness appeals every two months! These appeals alternate between highlighting our emergency ‘essential’ needs, and appealing for ‘extra’ items that allow us to go above and beyond in blessing the people we serve.

Give
Every penny donated is invested directly into the work of Open Hands in order to help those most in need. There are a number of different ways that you can financially support this work and help us to keep our lights on and doors open, all equally valued. For example:
- Making a one time donation
- Leaving Open Hands a gift in your will
- Setting up a monthly donation online or through your bank
- Donating as you shop (at no extra cost to you!)
